I have a few questions. One, it looks like you build your own lights. I am interested in how to do that. If you could explain how you get the drivers etc. and hook them all up. It seems to me they are much more versatile than the ones you buy. Also, I have a chiller and it shot craps already after about a week. Go figure. Cheap crap you buy now. Cheap build but not cheap price. What water chiller would you recommend to use? Also, what is the optimum temp for the system? Also, I keep my room at about 72 although in the afternoon when the outside temps reach 95 or so, it might get to 78 inside for 3 or 4 hours but it drops right back down. Is it necessary to run a chiller under those conditions?

If your room gets to 95 degrees that is not good on the plants. Your water temp had to be fluctuating slot and you will be susrptable to getting root rot.

Roots are in great shape. White as snow and tons of them for sure. Water temps have not gotten above 72 since being put in the buckets.

What is your ppm? With a burn like that it'd be the first thing that I would check.

This morning the ppm was 543 and the pH was 6.08.

Looks like a nutrient lockout. Verify your ph. Recalibrate your equipment.

Looks like nitrogen toxicity or nute burn. If your system is highly aerated you need to run lower ppms. I dont know which scale your on but i would dilute that way down. I know those ppms dont sound like much but for those highly aerated undercurrent style systems you can over do it easy.

I run mine at 300 to 350. If I push much over 380 I see note burn.

Thanks for all the info. Been very helpful and all looks great again. I dropped the ppm down to about 375 and all is good.

I used hanna pens forever and loved them at the time, bout 2 a yr , not just probe. I've tried a few different ones since , but I love the bluelab combo meter. I bought 2 new probes after 6 mths, cause I got the continuous one also, one for each. But I'm still using the original probes. And it's been yrs, supposedly only good for 6 mths but mine ck out right on the money and quick to. Those hannah pens crapped out after so long and needed a new probe. Not just the pen either, I had a hannah grochek remote meter and it only lasted so long. Idk why my bluelab has lasted so long but I'm super happy with it.

I am getting ready to harvest these little gems in about a week. Just curious as to whether it is wise to sanitize (bleach and rinse well) reuse the hydroton or just dispose of it and put new back in with the new plants?

I'm kinda a noob but I reuse mine without bleach. Your idea is probably better. Have had no issues doing it my way three times now but might bleach them next round.

I run Hydrogaurd so I don't worry too much about bad bacteria.

I reuse mine, after use I soak the hydroton in bleach and water for 1 hour then I add perixide the the bleach and water mix and let it sit
for 10 minutes then I rinse the hydroton and dry it. Works great.

Just be careful when you add the perixide to the bleach and water mix it causes a chemical reaction that kills everything.
