Or doctors that didn't want to be bogged down by student loans.
I'm pretty sure that the military doesn't pay off previously acrued debt (in the form of their existing student loans). They will cover "X" amount a semester in tuition assistance and some schools charge a per/class fee that ensures the TA covers it. Not sure TA would cover medical classes for the continuing education required in the medical field.

Some corporate hospitals have plans where they pay it off as they pay for your continued education - pass or pay.

@MisterKister To be clear - you are already in the service, then get accepted into the HSPS program - Then they pay your tuition - They ain't paying off an "already doctor" persons student loans. In the second one you are a wannabe officer in a military college, THEN you get accepted to a medical school. And you have to be accepted before the military academy graduates you into your contractually obligated service to pay for the Air Force Academy degree "student loan"

And in the one where they contact the college and start paying the tuition you are ALREADY paying yourself, the colleges usually have a "gold star" program where they accept whatever maximum the VA or military pays per credit hour as payment in full to keep the business coming in.

To be fair I never stated that they would pay off previous unpaid student loans.
