......snip... I can't really see how it's possible to set a space up for lights you've never owned and have no real idea how they will perform/affect the space.....but now I know and will adjust as needed.....snip...
I think the thing that triggered the importance of environment and the difference in needs between hid and led is the difference in leaf surface temperature and air temp. I was looking at vpd charts wrong, thinking air temp and leaf temp were the same thing, they arent. Dont remember where I came across the info but for same air temp hid leaf temps are warmer than led. This is one reason why I believe in far red / ir suplementaion wv that fall outside the par.
There is much truth in your statement, you could go strict thermodynamics but that wont tell you how the plant will react to the light. There is art in science, people paint different pictures.

As you've noticed....I'm far more casual about all of this with no $$$$ on the line anymore and no problem keeping more supply on hand than I can ever use. I don't monitor shit other than seeing that the garage is above 50F. LOL. It'd drive me nuts worrying about VPD and leaf temps down there.....it's hard enough just keeping it semi-warm in there. I have too much other important shit goin on in my world to hover over my grow. I spent decades monitoring pH/chasing VPD and all the re$t. I'm just over it @ this point. It'll be OK...and I'll get some buds even without a perfect environment. It's a weed! I just need a peek/taste of what some of these may...or may not...have to offer. I'm fingerpainting these days with no rules or lines to stay inside of....

Yeah...not much red in these lights. The tent needs some 2000K glow! Dug out the cordset/lamp last night but never got around to hookin it up. Hopefully today. Just gonna hang a 600hps vert and let the light bounce around in there. Cordset still had the hangers on it I used when I had 10 - 1000's rockin' vert in my garage years ago. If I think I need a reflector I'm just gonna grab a bat wing cus all my hoods are too damn big to fit in the mix with these LED boards hangin in there.

Curiosity bump, how's the 600 working out?

Well......the old addage "You get out what you put in" is in full effect here on this grow.....

As you insinuated....just adding in a light often doesn't play out well. Went from wayyyy too cold to wayyyyy too hot.....back to the LED's and "que sera sera"....

Gonna be some nice terps out of this grow but it's a paltry showing with the cold/etc. Been in the zone all along with pH but I'm getting some nice deficiency colors just the same.....so kinda wondering about what else is in the well water or if I'm just a fuck up. Either way....I've been too busy with the house remodel to really pay much attention to any of it....

If I do a second run I'm goin back to the hps/what i know works/something I can truly ventialte properly...... just don;t have the time/interest to revamp it all right now for weed I don' need. And Summer is coming....thank Bob...... this tent growin shit sucks balls.

People often look at me like I have horns growing out of my head when I first suggest adding heat instead of adding photons that cant be used. Going to hook in the root zone loop (a wort chiller burried in a pot) on my hydronic led heat managment system. IMO integrating led into the environmental control logic is where the beef is, this is where led can outshine hid.

It wasn 't so much the added light/etc....it's the fact that these boards take up a shit ton of space and there was no room for a hood to ventilate things properly. I';ve ran 10-----1000's bare lamped in a 12 x 14 room before and all went well cus it was set up for that. With these LED's in this dinky tent......yer venting through the tent...not the lights....and it makes a huge difference. Humidity is crazy. Suck a buncha air thorugh and it's too cold.....no fans and it's like Florida in there....fuck that. LOL.

Not gonna add heat just to run these lights. that's counterp;roductive in my world....just liike I'll never have an A/C/mini split/etc. Never needed any of that before...still don't. Just haven't spent any time trying to dial it in.

My old "hydronic heat management system" was a king size waterbed mattress. Used the frame, heater, and all. Rooted clones like a mofo and the veg plants ate that shit up. I've also used a black contractor trash bag...tied off....with a germination heater under it..... .....LOL. Pre-internet/easy access to gadgets. for sure..... just ghetto shit all the way... I've kinda never lost that shit.....all the new stuff is beyond me/my interest level in all of it these days.... I must be gettin old.

FWIW....I ended up keeping the the 600 in the mix and upped the fannage. I'm also feeding the stove a bit extra and it just hasn't been as cold. Everyone is budding along.....not a prize showing due to the cold early on and the lack of time to spend fucking with it all....but things are frostin up and coming around a bit for sure. Sitting just shy of 5 weeks....

I did find a few errant/unwanted sacks on one "Herb" plant and one "BOO"....but they were on the main stem....so I brushed em off and kept my eyes on em and didn't see any return funny biz.... so both stayed in the mix. I usually shit can those plants but you guys are wearin on me....LOL. We'll see if I have a buncha seeds for ya all later...heehee....

As you can see...they've all dropped a 4-way and are in RainbowLand. Really not sure if some of it is the Mai tai/PP crossing cus they eventually seem to purp...or if I have some shat goin on.... either way...it is what it is and I'm sure they will make some good smokes.

Gotta say I'm impressed how quickly most of these seem to be progressing for 44 days....especially with what I felt was a very slow transition into bloom via the cold/etc. Either way....I'm getting a nice peek here.

FYI....these are all organic....BioBizz Grow and Roots HPK. Keeping the pH in the 6.2 to 6.5 range.

I wet up the next go around tonight. Clearwater MaiTai4 crosses.....Mimosa....Creamsickle, GMO, and Original Diesel..... Oni Beach Wedding....Oni Poon Tang Pie.... Phinest Molten Melon....and my own BB S-1. I've had no luck whatsoever with the Phinest shit....so we'll see if we luck out or fall flat again. The lone Poon Tang Pie I did last winter hermed on me...so again...we will see. I've heard the trop Cookies can do that. Figured i'd try again. Ditto the Beach wedding. All I've grown have been solid plants....though the outdoor gal was really stretchy....but I've yet to find any orange terps....just kinda cakey ones...so I figured I'd do the "3rd time is a charm" thing and hope. We'll see who wants to play and who doesn't. No 2nd pop this time cus I'll be popping the summer stuff for the BIG garden 4-20 and these will go til May 1 or so....giving me a perfect overlap. By then (4/20) I should be seeing decent flower development and can make some decisions on who gets a spot this Summer. Ahhh...what fun.

Gonna have a showing of some sort from all of the above but the Molten Melon. Same shit with the last 3 seeds...2 didn't pop at all...one did...but then grew to an inch and just withered away. Everybody else is fine. Was another case where I had doubt regarding my own skills/etc. >at first<......but after 3 separate pops and the same shit happening each time.....it isn't the fabled out of "Grower Error". Still never heard how "Jai" left the rock...but the replacement pack never materialized due to his passing....so it's a done deal here.

Cleawater selections rocketed up.....a few have been slow-to-go since...but I'm hopeful they will play catch up.
Only one Poon (i think) of 3. Fortunately...2 out of 3 on my in house Colorado Blueberry S-1's are up and rockin'. Excited to see what comes of these. I've grown my S-1 Lem chems...Amnesia Haze....Sour 13....and Stardawg/Purple cheddar multiple times......but not these BB S-1's. Haven't taken cuts of anything in 6+ years...but will probably take a few from these 2 because I'd really like to preserve her yet again. She's a bitch to reverse....so there weren't tons of beans..maybe 40....and that took me 2 attempts. the first one she only pollinated the crosses...lightly. didn't get a single S-1!! I did finally get her to take/drop on the second run...but I gifted some of those early on (and never saw any cuts/reports come back..as per usual)....so I'm down to about 5 beans after these. BEST tastin BB I've ever smoked. Sometimes not as frosty (OK..never as frosty) as some of the current fare out there...but frost ain't everything. If you tasted this you'd know what I'm sayin'. She needs crossed into something all stiiicky and shit...for sure.... might be time to put the Chucker coat back on after about 8 years of lettin in slide/not havin the focus to do anything to her. Was afraid the seeds would take a crap on me from age...so gonna have to get with it if i'm gonna try to make something/anything happen.....

Day 56 ---- Heisenbeans Purple Punch S-1's. Definitely on the brink of comin down.....

Sucks about that pHinest stuff. I was on the verge of picking some up last year, especially when I saw some pics of PB Souffle floating around...glad I dodged that bullet, I have no patience for weak seed stock, even if the genetics are top tier.
