I use Lavazza, too, but don't grind it fresh. I hand press it through an Aeroprress.
Nice rig. I have been drinking Mystic Monk coffee, it is my favorite. Here is a link to check it out. https://www.mysticmonkcoffee.com

Not just missing out on some premium brown beans but it is made and blessed by monks living in the mountains of WyomingI would like to get into more small companies, but every time I've tried buying a bag it tasted really weird.
Back in the early 2000s I got my espresso for a hippie co-op and it was really good, but they stopped selling it a few years later. So then I bought Starbucks beans for about ten years before trying a bunch of expensive brands and settling on Lavazza. It's good, but I know I'm probably missing out on some unknown dank.
That's a cool grinder, btw. I've always wanted to try one. I love electronics, but I also love old school mechanisms.Nice rig. I have been drinking Mystic Monk coffee, it is my favorite. Here is a link to check it out. https://www.mysticmonkcoffee.com View attachment 113757
It is all cast iron milling with wood hopper/case.That's a cool grinder, btw. I've always wanted to try one. I love electronics, but I also love old school mechanisms.
Does it use butane? This is probably the longest I've ever gone between shatter runs. The material is pretty old and the storage bucket let in a lot of moisture, so don't think this is going to my greatest work. The temps are supposed to dip again, so I'm going to wait until like 3am to blast it. Hopefully that will help a bit.
Yep. I don't have a closed loop system, so I take the glass sights off when I blast and then put them on and take off the column after all of the butane has passed through. Once it has mostly evaporated I seal it and let it slowly warm up until I put it in my vac oven the next day. It's works really well at preventing condensation. Normally I dry the material really well too, so there's very little moisture going into the purge stage. That's how I get really glassy / sandy shatter. Too much moisture makes it waxy / tacky. Fresh bud that hasn't gotten a chance to oxidize, and low temps throughout is how I get a nice pale yellow / gold color. Some strains seem a little darker than others, but time darkens them all up.Does it use butane?
I would say open blast outside only. I had a painter extraction fan sucking up the gas and throwing it out into my yard, but it was super loud and made me paranoid. So I went back to using a fan sitting up high behind me to blow everything away from my persons. That is a nice blasting tube. I had built a blasting tube about fifteen years ago. It was one foot of copper pipe, one inch in diameter, with a copper cap epoxied to one end. I poked a hole in the cap with a nail just big enough for the tip of the butane can. I would use a stick to pack it full and then cover the open end with a coffee filter or two. I secured the coffee filter with a rubber band. I would use oven mitts to hold the blasting tube and the butane can, then blast a whole can of butane through the tube over a rectangle glass Pyrex dish that was small enough to fit in a kitchen sink. Once the can was done I would immediately float the Pyrex dish on top of warm/hot water in the kitchen sink. Floating the honey oil on the warm/hot water would turn the liquid butane back to gas rapidly, leaving you with just the honey oil. When the honey oil stops bubbling you can remove the floating dish from the water, it is done. Scrape it up with a razor and enjoy! If anyone wants to try this method of extraction, make sure to open some windows, extinguish all flames, and make sure you do not have a gas pilot light on your stove. It can ignite the butane vapor.
I would think fans would be dangerous with the electrical arch in the motor.I would say open blast outside only. I used to use small glass tubes and steel columns and worked my up to the one I have now. It's double walled, along with the collection pot and splatter platter. The best thing I've found is PTFE film. I used to blast into a pyrex dish and scrape it out with a razor. Then I started lining it with PTFE flim and that made transferring it into my vacuum 1000 times easier, less wasteful and gave it better finished texture. Now I line my collection pot with PTFE film. I'm not sure if it would work for a closed system.
