So I don't clog the thread, look at my last post (link in signature block)
A small dome with a 65w fixed about 18" above the plants.
A crappy tiny tent (36x20) with a 135w that could veg a 3x3 easy.
And I have 2 flower spaces each with a 260w. One is a standard 3x3 closet, and one is a 40x40 tent.

I did use a 315 CMH with a 4200 to bloom 15 square feet. It was overkill...it vegged llke a champ.
I am now using 240 watts of 80CRI 4k strips (3 strips). It vegges just as well and saves me a few watts. I could probably turn it down but the dial it goes to 10.
My QB135 in 4k was VERY good for veg too. The boards are more versatile and you can move the drivers out of the area usually (with a longer cord or wires) and help dissipate heat in a tent.
CMH with 2 bulbs has the same versatility but 80 to 90 more watts. 20kour lifespan bulbs at about 100 a pop (phillips master color and veg series)

The common calculation for QB (and strips using the same diodes) is 30W per square foot. I run just over 480W in my 4x4 tent and dim them down during early veg.
It’s the blue light in the MH that keeps the nodes tighter.

Well its awesome and I love it....is it worth it to upgrade to a cmh ...
I've only grown under LED so I'm not the best person to ask.

I’d run qb to save on watt usage and throw whatever cmh and hps into flower tent and try ir red supplemental light into it. Push as much as you can if you don’t have any heat issues
