How do the roots look? Tea is the only thing that is worth a shit in dwc. Hydroguard isn't enough when your battling pythium even with water chillers.
I also had to make sure on my systems I could access all the buckets to see and fix any issues.
Also you have to trim all the roots of any runners before you flip them to flower.
Dwc is a great setup but it takes a long time and experience to fix problems before they get out of control. It's all about being 2 steps ahead when running them systems
Well the thing is I didn't have any runners the whole root mass is filling the buckets up. I usually pull up the plants while in veg and remove the runners because in that system I only have a 1" line coming from each row of 3 5gal bucket. And they will clog those lines up. Usually pull the plants up and get the airline out of the roots at the same time as pulling the runners off.

Also didn't have any pythium but wanted to use hydroguard as a preventative. Next time I'm just gonna use peroxide instead.

And I'm using megacrop this grow and it has made the roots dark colored because of the amount of molasses in it. I haven't felt any slime yet on the roots which is a plus but the plants did suffer some damage some more than others.

Damn that’s fucked. Sorry bro. You got any pictures? They might pull through it if you can unclog the root plug and get everything running back to normal. Idk how bad they are tho. And I don’t really know a crazy amount about hydro either. But I’ve fucked up some plants pretty bad and they’ve bounced back.
These nets are 42" deep so these aren't small plants. Like the ones in my tents. I want to fill up the full 42"IMG_20190629_123124.jpgIMG_20190629_123128.jpgIMG_20190629_123146.jpg

Ive seen a lot of folks suggesting the use of 5 gallon paint strainer bags made from nylon. Idk if it would contain the roots, as we all know roots can make their way through some pretty fine stuff. Maybe water roots are different, anyway im thinking about giving them a try myself. Im sure they will restrict water flow a good bit but if they will stop the roots from tunneling through the pipes I'll be happy.

I actually have a bunch of those that go in 5 gal buckets. I used to dabble in hempy buckets years back.

This is a pic of the last bucket in the row closest to the central Rez tank. Water level was very low but still just fine. The plant to it's left you can see the dropping leaves. This is when I first noticed something was up and thought it was weird.

I think what happened was during Rez change while water was draining the current pulled the roots into the 2" pipe. The roots fill the whole bucket up. I had to end up getting roots out of 7 different buckets including the plant in the pic starting to wilt.
When I take em out of veg and move the plants the root system is about the size of a basketball.
When I had 21 gal totes and 3" pipe I still had one jack herer that clogged the whole system up with it's roots. But it had runners on it going all the way to the rez tank and I couldn't lift the plant to trim the roots it was so big.

Damn man that sucks , I know ive been there and the times my ph dipped down in the 3-4 range my plants never perked back up. So did the strainers contain the roots with the hempy buckets?
I did have a layer of media in the bottom of em. The perlite could have helped to prevent the roots from growing hairs through em. Don't know how they would be in RDWC though. As the current might pull the bags into the outlets of the bucket and slow the current down. Need a tall enough tote so the bags don't hang down to the drain.

Im thinking about slowing the current down to see if the roots will just settle to the bottom and not get drawn into the pipes. Maybe use a really small pump or maybe use the deal that the recirculating waterfarms use.

I thought about that, might could use a small kitchen strainer to cover the the exit and that would keep the nylon bag from getting sucked into the pipe.

Ghost bastard day 43ish since flip. The second run with this one should be great. She’s frosting up nice and starting to swell. Sorry about the light in these pics I’m lazy tonight. View attachment 12123View attachment 12124View attachment 12125View attachment 12126View attachment 12127
you will be greatly rewarded. Powerful smoke, even fresh. Even a week cure seems to have packed its punch a lil more. Wished I'd only done half the pack now, lmfao.

per the website news, does Gu have the cc option yet?

I'm using pumps that are too big myself. I think it was size wise is like however much water your have total take that amount and double it. That's the size pump you need. So if you have a 100 gal system then you need a 200 gal pump or slightly bigger depending on how far you got to push the water.

Might need to look into that though. I do know that some pumps are more powerful than others. I have 2 pumps slightly over a 1000 gph one is an active aqua and the other a general hydroponics pump. The GH pump is WAY WAY more powerful than the other brand. That pump gets after it.

In the past I tried using mesh screen to cover the holes but without the bags though keep that in mind. The roots ended up stopping up the mesh screen and stopped water flow. I even tried steal wool covering it. Roots ended up filling it up as well. But didn't have those bags in the rdwc.

U just need to try it and report back in on how it's doing. It could work with the paint strainer bags to keep the roots in check.

Want know till we try it but i have my doughts, nothing seems to work other than slowing water flow to a crawl. Thats the only thing about these systems that i dont like. If i cant figure something out im going back to using waterfarms, most of the root mass in the water farm stays in the upper bucket. I only had 1" vinyl tubing and it didnt stop up as bad as the 1-1/2 pipe with the 5 gal buckets. Just hate cleaning that much hydroton all the time.

I do want to thank Heisen for the testers, deals and access to good genetics. For those prices that are prolly now gone, that I see gps site, lol, no offense, but what I was gifted besides the pack or two or three my poor disabled ass bought then, is greatly appreciated. Just wanted to say thanks. Right, wrong, curve balls, changes, etc, I believe you did a great service, even the shakin shit up part. And your intentions were pure, I believe. And many of us benefitted greatly. Thank you. Good luck on your endeavors
