Fruit and vegetable gardens 2023

Just some dude
I always say I’m going to grow garlic, but I never do. I don’t use enough cilantro to use up space to grow it in the garden. I could do it in a lot though.
Love garlic! We used to plant it in late September. I didn't grow any veggies this year but I'm thinking about popping a few cloves in the ground lol.

Looks like next years garden might be a success. All this was underbrush, briars, and blackberries last winter. Bulldozed it got compacted pretty bad because it is a dense clay. I got enough corn for a few meals, and nothing else until recently. The ginormous bio-mass in the middle is a spoon gourd. As it branches out I have just been spiraling it out to shade out most of the weeds. There's one fruit on the ground so far

and a few hanging. Tons of un-pollinated flowers until the past few weeks

Whish is when the red-ripper cowpeas started taking off. These flower in pairs, but then there's another set of flowers ready to go at the same stem-end once those are gone. I have a container in the freezer and am getting 1/4 - 1/2 cup of beans every day. Just got enough to make a pot and they are tasty. And seem to be prolific. One pod has over a dozen beans in it. half a dozen pods would make a side dish for one person. IMG_6471.JPG
And this is the first melon I have seen. RS132 or something like that. Supposed to ripen orange. I have a few other plants I won't be able to identify unless they fruit. This is about fist size and might get cantaloupe size when done.

The best part is that this has been zero effort except the chop-n-drop mowing and putting a sprinkler on it every few days. And half-ass training the beans and melons
